Corporation Street Hotel Rochester – INFO HUB

Corporation Street Hotel Rochester, Kent.

There’s a lot of discussion on social media regarding the proposal for for the new Corporation Street Hotel Rochester.  We decided to create this post after realising that quite a few people were confused about the details of the project. Not content with teaching websites and SEO, we also want to educate local people about local issues affecting the area. Too pluggy?

The idea for an info hub came from a Facebook post shared in a local Rochester group:

In case any Rochester and Medway friends have missed it, the revised Corporation Street hotel plans are open for…

  1. I feel that the project has its good and bad points.
    The good points being obvious; new jobs, regeneration of the area, higher levels of tourism, a hotel available literally on the High Street.
    The bad points are things that need to be addressed as a priority if the build is to go ahead . These are;
    1. Better traffic control along the dual carriageway leading into Strood and perhaps even a re-plan of the Strood one way system. The current traffic levels are horrendous, and building a hotel right in the middle of it won’t help at all.
    2. The hotel would be less of an eyesore if the design fit in with the heritage of Rochester. The current proposed design would stick out like a sore thumb against the backdrop of Rochester.
    3. Lack of available parking around the High Street will be worsened by the hotel. More car parking areas will need to be introduced as there will inevitably be people using the existing car parks around Rochester as overflow areas of the hotel hasn’t limited parking.
    4. Will the hotel encourage more people to come and drink in the High Street over the weekends and on bank holidays? We currently have a large student and commuter population in Rochester already, there is a possibility that having a hotel right on the High Street will create more of a ‘party’ vibe. Is Rochester ready for that?

  2. While the idea of a hub to provide information on the proposed hotel is a good idea, I think the issue is being confused by seeing the hotel as part of the larger Rochester Riverside Development. The hotel is a standalone project by the landowner of the site whereas the Rochester Riverside Development is a multi agency project led by Medway Council. The Riverside Development already includes plans for two hotels and doesn’t consider any building works south of the railway line.
